A consistent leader in funded research support, the Department of Pathology & Cell Biology faculty research activities span a broad range of areas including Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology, Oncology, Neurodegenerative diseases, Cell Motility, Stem Cell Biology, Virology, Immunology, and Biochemical and Molecular Pathology.
The Department of Pathology & Cell Biology has years of demonstrated excellence in medical student teaching at the College of Physicians & Surgeons. The Graduate Programs are ranked in the top 3 nationally by the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index (Chronicle of Higher Education, 2007).
The department is also proud of its long history of training men and women for leadership roles in diagnostic, academic and research pathology and for careers in the clinical practice of pathology.
Columbia University Pathologists is a leading provider of testing and consultation in anatomic pathology and laboratory medicine. Our fully accredited laboratories are staffed by nationally and internationally recognized pathologists with subspecialty expertise in all areas of anatomic and clinical pathology. Our clinical services complete over 4 million procedures per year. We have more than 50 attending physicians and doctoral level scientists and a staff of over 400 individuals dedicated to delivering timely and reliable service to all patients and healthcare providers.
