Department of Pathology Diagnostic Services
Soft Tissue Pathology
Soft Tissue Pathology is a sub-specialty branch of the Division of Surgical Pathology. It is involved with the diagnosis and staging of soft tissue tumors, a rare group of neoplasms of connective tissue. These tumors, generally classified according to the cell type they resemble, include lesions with fibroblastic, adipocytic, smooth and skeletal muscle, endothelial, schwannian and histiocytic origin. Because of their rarity, it is critical that a specialist who is familiar with their features and biological potential diagnose them. Misdiagnosis may have deleterious consequences on patient's treatment and prognosis.
Dr. Fabrizio Remotti is responsible for the service of Soft Tissue Pathology. Dr Remotti trained in Soft Tissue Pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, DC, where he was a Fellow and a Staff Pathologist.
