| Soft Tissue Pathology is a sub-specialty branch of the Division of Surgical Pathology. It is involved with the diagnosis and staging of soft tissue tumors, a rare group of neoplasms of connective tissue. These tumors, generally classified according to the cell type they resemble, include lesions with fibroblastic, adipocytic, smooth and skeletal muscle, endothelial, schwannian and histiocytic origin. Because of their rarity, it is critical that a specialist who is familiar with their features and biological potential diagnose them. Misdiagnosis may have deleterious consequences on patient's treatment and prognosis. |
